Lakers wins in OT ending 2 – game losing skid over the Hornets

NBA – The Los Angeles Lakers host the visiting Charlotte Hornets in their first meeting of the 2021–2022 NBA Regular Season at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Both teams are currently struggling prior to the game, but one of this team will be back in the winning column at the end of this game.



The Lakers are currently 5 -5 win/loss record and currently sitting 10th in the Western Standings with back to back losses to Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trailblazers.

The Charlotte Hornets with 4–6 win/loss record and currently sitting at 9th in the Eastern Standings. The Hornets are in 4 – game losing skid and trying their luck to stun the Lakers at their home court.

The Lakers are once again playing without LeBron James for the third straight game due to an abdominal injury. The Lakers are 1 and 3 without LeBron in this early season.

In the game, the 1st quarter was won by the Lakers 29–26, Lakers Center DeAndre Jordan had a hot start with 10 points in the early quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, The Charlotte Hornets outscored the Lakers 34–32 to cut the Lakers lead into a single point 61–60. Both teams had lead changes in the later minutes of the quarter until the Lakers regain the lead at the Half.

Lakers led by Anthony Davis with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assist, Carmello Anthony also with 12 points and 3 rebounds and DeAndre Jordan with 10 points and 4 rebounds the only Lakers with double figure points at the half.

The Hornets had 4 players with double figure points led by LaMello Ball with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists, Gordon Hayward 12 points and 3 rebounds, Terry Rozier, 11 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist and Miles Bridges with 10 points and 1 rebound.

In the 3rd quarter, the Charlotte Hornets had a strong start posting an early 8 point deficit until half way thru the quarter but the Lakers made a huge run and regain the lead, outscoring the Hornets 33–27 and take a commanding 7 point lead at the end of the 3rd 94–87.

In the 4th and final quarter, The Lakers posted a double digit lead with a little over 9 minutes to go in regulation but the Hornets manage to run back in the game and cut the Lakers leads into 4 points 110 – 106 with a little over 3 minutes in regulations.

Lakers failed to hang on to their leads and the Hornets finally able to tie the game 115-115 after Hornets Miles Bridges hit a game tying 3’s that extended the game in overtime.

In the overtime period, Lakers are down by 4 points in the early minutes, but able to regain the lead and posted a 3 point lead with 11 seconds to go on the 5 minute extension. Hornets had their chance to tie the game but failed two attempts 3’s to extend the game into a second OT. Final score 126 – 123 Lakers win.

Lakers able to steal this game over the Hornets after another scary close game collapse. Lakers led by Anthony Davis with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists, Carmelo Anthony with 29 points, 7 out of 10 from 3’s and Russell Westbrook posting his second triple double as a Laker.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Hornets leading scorer Terry Rozier with 29 points, LaMelo Ball with a triple double and Gordon Hayward with 21 points.
