LA Lakers Beat Top Seeded Utah Jazz in OT

NBA – The Los Angeles Lakers host the league best record and top seeded team in the Western Conference the Utah Jazz at Staple Center in Los Angeles, California.

Prior to the game, The LA Lakers are currently 5th in the West Standings with 34 wins and 22 losses, they loss to the Boston Celtics in their last game after falling short in a late game run.


The Utah Jazz is still holding on the best record in the league with 42 wins and 14 losses, currently the top seeded team in the West with 2 games win ahead of the 2nd seed Phoenix Sun.

In the game, Laker Center Andre Drummond is suiting up for this game against the Utah Jazz after missing the last game due to toe injury. Lakers are still out with their two superstar’s LeBron James and Anthony Davis for this game.

The Jazz is also missing some key players in this game against the Lakers, Donovan Mitchell is out due to an ankle injury. Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors are all three ruled to sit out for this game.

Both teams are short handed on their game today, but this will be an important game for the Lakers to hold on to the 5th spot until their superstar duo returns.

In the 1st quarter, The Utah Jazz won the quarter 35 – 34.

In the 2nd quarter, Lakers came back and won the quarter 31 – 27 to end the first half up by 3 points 65 – 62.

In the 3rd quarter, The Lakers posted a double digit lead in the later minutes of the quarter 94 – 82 outscoring the Jazz 29 – 20.

In the 4th quarter, the Jazz made a comeback and even take the lead 103 – 102 after falling behind for the most of the game. Lakers regain the lead but  Jordan Clarkson hits a clutch 3’s that give the Jazz lead 110 - 108 with 8.7 seconds to go.

Laker Guard, Dennis Schroder, escape with an easy lay-up to tie the game 110 – 110 to extend the game into overtime.

In the extension period the Lakers finally put away the Jazz outscoring the Jazz 17 – 5, in 127 – 115 win for the Lakers.

Andre Drummond leads the Lakers with a monster game 27 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assist, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 25 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assist and Dennis Schröder with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assist. 

Meanwhile, Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz in scoring with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assist.

The Lakers have now beaten two of the most powerful teams this season. They beat the super team Brooklyn Nets in a blown out fashion and now the league best record Utah Jazz.

The Lakers and the Jazz are scheduled to face again on their next game at Staple Center.
