Martial Law in Mindanao Might be extended till December?

Philippines – The Martial Law in the country was implemented by President Rodrigo Duterte after a terrorist attack by the Maute Group in the City of Marawi in Mindanao despite the law is only applied for the whole Mindanao and does not include Luzon and Visayas, many Filipinos are still afraid of the said law as they remember the nightmare of the Martial Law during the Marcos regiment where many human rights was violated.

The Marawi Crisis started on May 23, 2017 when some unknown people with arms and explosive devices takes over the City of Marawi which later known as the Maute Group. As soon as the news brought to the president, the president quickly cut short his visit in Russia and declared Martial Law upon his arrival in the country. Since then many soldiers and terrorist has been casualties of the said crisis which also includes civilians.

As the war between the Government forces and the terrorist goes on the government later known that they are not only dealing with Maute Group but as well as the Abu Sayyaf Salafi jihadist groups and international terrorist ISIS.

For now, the crisis in Marawi is almost on the second month of the war and the forces of the government believe that it’s nearing its end?

Meanwhile, President Duterte requested to the congress to extend the Martial Law in Mindanao for 5 more months or till the end of this year? But many politicians are parted with the president's request? Some say that it’s too long while others are in favor and according to House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, the residents of Mindanao are in fact in favor of extending the martial law so he does not find any reason for the president's request to be denied?
